5 most popular books in the Bible

There is little doubt that the Bible is the world’s best-selling and most widely circulated book. Although it is impossible to know exact figures, it is estimated that nearly 4 billion copies of this book, have been printed and sold globally in the last five decades. The 5 most popular books within this magnificent book, are:

#1 Psalms

The book of Psalms is at the center of the Bible in more ways than one.  It consists contains a collection of heartfelt  songs and prayers, in which the writers honestly pour out their true feelings praising God for his justice, confess their sins, express their doubts and fears, ask God for help in times of trouble,  and praise and worship him.

#2 Matthew

Written by the apostle Matthew, this book has a clear message, “ Jesus is Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords.“   Matthews’ purpose is to prove that Jesus is the Messiah, the eternal king.  He begins by presenting  Jesus’ genealogy.  He then tells of Jesus’ birth and early years, including his family’s escape to Egypt from the vicious King Herod and their return to Nazareth.   Matthew also labors to show Christ’s authority by recounting the many miracles he performed.

#3 John

Similar to Matthew, the apostle John sets out to conclusively prove that Jesus is the Son of God and all who believe in him will have eternal life.    John makes it clear that Jesus is not just another man, he is truly the divine son.   Jesus is presented as the light of the world because he offers the gift of eternal life to all of mankind.  John outlines the message and ministry of Jesus, and his crucifixion and resurrection.

#4 Romans

In this book, the apostle Paul clearly presents the foundations of the Christian Faith. He reminds us that all people are sinful and  Christ died to forgive sin.  Because of his sacrifice, we are made right with God through faith. This begins a new life, with a new relationship with God.    Anyone who  studies Romans carefully, will never be at a loss to know what to believe.

#5 Proverbs

Written by Solomon (the wisest man who ever lived), this book is intended to provide moral instruction and to teach people how to apply divine wisdom to daily life.  Proverbs covers a wide range of topics  including youth and discipline, family life, self-control and resisting temptation, business matters,  knowing God, marriage, seeking the truth, wealth and poverty, immorality, and, of course, wisdom.  Reading this book, one will come to understand that knowing God is the key to wisdom.

Undeniably, Christians around the world view the Bible as much more than just a book. For them, its life transforming power reaches far beyond printed pages. It serves as a source encouragement and enlightenment, providing a connection to God and his unfailing word.
